Navigating Power Dynamics in Performing Arts Learning Institutions

Frances Pappas and Martina Fladerer collaborate on a 3-hour workshop for a diversity- and power-sensitive environment in performing arts education. It explores recognizing harmful power imbalances and discriminatory behavior. Drawing from their experiences as musicians, educators, and curators, they emphasize:

Balancing inherent talent with a safe, inclusive, and diverse teaching atmosphere.
Assisting schools and universities in creating discrimination-free environments conducive to artistic excellence.
Focus: Establish diversity- and power-sensitive cooperation in music performance lessons and teaching/learning contexts.
Individual Needs: Integrate considerations for participants' unique circumstances.
Skill Development: Recognize harmful power imbalances and discriminatory behavior.
Practical Approach: Implement real-world examples and exercises to develop tools and strategies.
